Making sense of cancer nutrition

Nutrition plays an important role before, during and after cancer treatment. It can make a difference to how you cope with treatment, help manage side effects, and support your strength, energy and recovery.

With so much information available, much of it conflicting and rarely personalised, it can be difficult to know what to do for the best or where to turn.

Often, what people need isn't more information. They need someone to help them make sense of it.

I'll help you understand what matters most for your situation and turn that it into practical advice that works in real life.

Is this you?

  • Wondering about the best way to eat before, during or after cancer treatment

  • Managing side effects or changes to your appetite, weight, digestion, strength or energy

  • Trying to make sense of conflicting advice about foods such as sugar, dairy, soy or red meat

  • Navigating hormone treatment and wondering how nutrition can help manage symptoms and support your bone and heart health

  • Unsure about supplements – what's helpful, what's not, and whether there is anything you should avoid

  • Wanting to reduce the risk of cancer coming back or another cancer developing, and look after your future health

If any of this sounds familiar, you're in the right place. These are the kinds of things I help people with every day.

KIND WORDS FROM A CLIENT

"Meredy is amazing! So caring, so supportive, and clearly very experienced and knowledgeable. She gave me clarity as to the best way forward on prostate cancer nutrition, which helped enormously in reducing the stress and anxiety I was going through. I feel very lucky to have had the benefit of her invaluable help and advice on this journey"

More than nutrition

Nutrition can be a practical and supportive way of looking after yourself. Something grounding and sustaining. Something you can do.

Cancer can change the way you think about food. Choices you may never have thought twice about before can feel like they carry much more weight.

For many people, food can get wrapped up in uncertainty, responsibility and hope. Questions about food are often questions about how to look after yourself in the best way you can. They may come with worries about doing the right thing, missing something important or unintentionally making things worse.

Food isn't just nutrients. It's part of everyday life. It can affect our routines, our relationships, our confidence, our enjoyment and our independence.

After nearly three decades of supporting people affected by cancer, I've seen what this period of life can ask of someone. My role is about much more than nutrition. It's about helping you find your footing again.

Cancer changes many things. Food can become one of them. You don't have to figure it all out on your own.

Support designed around you

Cancer care can bring changing priorities, symptoms and side effects. What you need from nutrition may change too. Whatever's going on, we work with it.

Before we talk about food

I want to understand you – your health, your treatment, your daily life, your goals, what feels manageable, what feels difficult and what's most important to you right now.

Evidence applied to you

I'll draw on the best available evidence and over 25 years of clinical experience to help you focus on what's most relevant for your situation.

As both a registered dietitian and nutritional therapist, I can draw on both disciplines, giving me more ways to support you.

Shaped around your life

You won't find strict cancer diets or long lists of foods you don't enjoy. We'll focus on practical changes that feel manageable and can become part of everyday life.

Nutrition doesn't exist in isolation. It sits alongside sleep, movement, emotional wellbeing and everything else that influences how you're feeling day to day.

Cancer may be part of your life right now, but it isn't all of who you are. That's why I'll never start with cancer. I'll always start with you.

Hi, I'm Meredy

Whatever you're wondering about, it's important. Having the time to listen, understand and work through things together is one of the things I value most about my work.

I'm a dual-qualified Registered Dietitian and Nutritional Therapist,  and I've worked in specialist cancer nutrition for more than 25 years.

During that time, I've worked in NHS specialist cancer centres, in private practice and alongside national cancer charities, supporting people through treatment, recovery and advanced illness.

I'm also proud to serve as an Executive Committee member of the British Society for Integrative Oncology, helping to support the development of evidence-informed integrative oncology in the UK.
